Here at Brotherhood, we want to keep you and your family safe on the road. We recommend regular maintenance checks and offer free auto care advice. However, there is only so much we can do to keep your car in one piece. Accidents happen, and we want to make sure you know what to do in case you find yourself in a fender bender.

Step 1

Let’s say your car has been hit on the road. The first thing you should do is make sure you’re alright. Do you or any of your passengers have injuries? If not, then try moving your car to a safer area. The side of the road is best to avoid any further collisions and keep you away from the street when you step out to assess the damage.

Step 2

Next, you need to get out and away from the car. Use this opportunity to exchange information with other drivers who were in the accident. If everyone is safe then go ahead and get their names, phone numbers, and insurance providers. Whatever you do, do not admit fault! Get a copy of the police report in case your insurer needs it and let them figure it out.

Step 3

If your car is safe enough to approach, document the accident. Take photos from several angles to show the damage done. Don’t miss anything that could be used to help you make a claim in court.
Now it’s time to make the call to your insurance company. Do this as soon as you can while the accident is still fresh. This will give them time to get started on your claim and send roadside assistance if necessary.

We want you to feel confident on the road, whether it’s a good day or a bad one. Any accident can throw you for a loop, but by following these steps then you can get that confidence back.

The mechanics at Brotherhood Garage can ensure that your car is serviced and maintained, to keep you and your family safe on the road. If you need help with any of these tips, feel free to ask us for help. If you would like to make an appointment, call (405) 265-7617 today.
